A teacher must not only be willing to die for his students, he must be willing to be killed by them. For at a certain age, he loves them more than they do themselves. When they grow older and have pupils of their own, they will pay the price by being hurt themselves.
-Dr. John Senior

Whence comes this quote?
Also, do you know where I could find Senior’s “The Idea of Schooling?”
I’m not sure the genesis of the quote. There was some talk this weekend of “The Idea of a School” being cleaned up by various people and perhaps published. There will be a publishing of Dr. Senior’s essays soon! I heard read some passages from the former, and it was incredible, simply amazing.
Peter – These published essays would be a boon to me and my family. By any chance, do you know if these will be a different set of essays than the ones found in Death/Restoration of Christian Culture?
Michael:
I will look into when these essays might be published. At the Clear Creek Colloquium they mentioned that the essays would be published, but did not give a set date. I’ll try to follow up on that. I recently saw (with my own eyes) a copy spiral bound of the manuscript for “The Idea of a School,” and I’m trying to swindle one of those for myself. It still needs to be edited before published for the general public consumption (according to Dr. Senior).
